Phase 1A of the renovation project was an 11,654 SF TI, requiring the demolition of most of the 1st floor to transform it into a showcase space for the engineering department. The new space includes a lobby and corridors, shop area, ideation space, rapid prototyping lab and restrooms. Also includes accessibility improvements along the perimeter of the building to bring the space up to current ADA and California Building Code requirements, as well as the removal and replacement of the two existing air handlers.

Unique challenges included a critical completion schedule and working in an occupied facility, which required close collaboration and pre-planning among Level 10, the subcontractors and the faculty team.
