The goal of the Zoo’s new Asian Leopard Exhibit was to showcase the animals in a naturalistic setting with plants and terrain similar to their native environment. To further enhance the animals’ well-being and visitor experience, four overhead transfer chutes provide a pathway for the leopards to move among four distinct habitat areas over a pedestrian viewing walkway.
In addition to the elevated animal walkways, the habitats feature glass den viewing areas, sculpted rock walls and natural perches. The exhibit also includes an animal management building and two barns.
Project scope included demolition of existing exhibit space, relocation of existing utilities, installation of new underground utilities, construction of three CMU structures for animal management and holding purposes, and construction of the four distinct habitats built of structural steel and enclosed with stainless steel wire mesh.
